Essentially doing the work of an entire motion design studio for the film. Blue Sky Studios tasked me with designing all of the 3D heads-up displays (HUDs) that were featured. The most notable being super spy Lance Sterling’s scuba googles, Killian’s drone vision, and special agent Eyes glasses. I was also responsible for all of the computer monitor displays, the agency “war-room” interface, and the entire touch screen interface for the Audi RSQ e-tron, which was a concept car created specifically for the film through an exclusive partnership with Audi. In addition, I was tasked with creating Walters 3D holographic watch display featured throughout the film. I worked closely with the entire Blue Sky lighting and composting teams to integrate these elements and especially with lead compositor Ari Rubenstein who was also responsible for the Killian face transformation featured at the end of this reel. All of the 3D elements including The Agency hard drive, Walters biotech displays, the Audi e-tron gadgets, and Killians claw hand, were generated and rendered from CINEMA 4D and then passed into the Blue Sky 3D pipeline. This process montage is nearly 2 years of future tech work I was tasked to create for the film. Ascent was a perfect container for that. Over several weeks, I worked through structured projects, critique rounds, and explorations focused on movement, timing, visual rhythm, and typographic storytelling. These pieces represent the experiments and finished animations that came out of that process.&nbsp; Studies in form, motion, restraint, and clarity. This wasn’t about just about learning something new, it was about deepening the muscle and having some fun! Make It Squishy! Great excercise in playing around with soft bodies, cloth sims, inflations and using mograph to drive simulations. Growth Mindset All things Fields and Mograph to drive animation. Inspired by all the fall mushroom foraging adventures I’ve been having in the Hudson Valley lately! How Rube Brought this Rube Goldberg inspired machine to life using a ton of rigid body simulations and forces within C4D. Why We Dance! This one incorporates some character animation and rigging as well as a dash of weight painting. Mechanically SpeakingAnother excersie in rigging, this time using mechanical IK rigs! I’ve always been a huge fan of the show and their screen/stage set up is a dream for any motion designer to work with. This series broke new ground in the use of live, immersive motion design for a weekly comedy show and was Emmy award winning. Needless to say I was super pumped for this one! Of course the global impact of COVID-19 had other plans and Patriot Act shifted directions just one month into my role here. We needed to redesign the show from the ground up to comply with social distancing norms and adapted our creative direction to maintain the same level of high quality graphics for a new format. In the end I’m super proud of the way all of the episodes turned out and am so thankful to have been a part of this show. Seeing how every single member of the team was able to shift gears and rebuild the show on the fly was something truly amazing to be a part of, especially during such a difficult time.
